Wikipedia Maintenance

[edit]

This section includes a bunch of stuff that you can do to help Wikipedia!

Being bold means if you think you can help an article, do so, but make sure you cite things! Also, if you happen to see a typo, or poor grammar feel free to edit it! Remember- if no one stepped forward to edit this encyclopedia, Wikipedia would get nowhere.

If you want to help Wikipedia by contributing to articles, or you want to donate to Wikipedia but don't have the money, don't worry! Go to the bounty board and start hunting! The bounty board is a place where bounty offerers will offer (real) money for promoting their article to a certain status (usually featured article status). Then, if the bounty is achieved before the expiration date, the money in the bounty will be donated to Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation under your name and anyone else who helped by contributing to the article. It's a win-win situation, see?

Another thing you can do to help Wikipedia is to welcome new users. There are several ways to do this. Some like to do this by hand. If you do, make sure you include links of helpful recourses and a personal message. You may also want to sign it. However, if you want to save time, check out some welcoming templates(WP:WC). Also, there is a gadget in your preferences that can help significantly. To find newbies use this page

Anti-vandalism

[edit]

Anti-vandalism can be achieved in many ways. The first is by hand. This is very slow and you may find that the vandalism will be gone by the time you edit the page. Second, you can undo the edit. This is still pretty time consuming, compared to rollbacking. You have to request rollbacking, though. Finally, there are gadgets and programs that will aid you in antivandalism. I really like Huggle. It is a program. There are also gadgets like Twinkle. You can also use the recent changed feed. The best part of programs and gadgets are that they will not only revert vandalism quickly, but will also shoot a warning and find the vandalism in a flash. It may take up to 5 minuets to find and revert vandalism by hand, but with Huggle, you can do the same is less than 5 seconds.

Ocellated turkey
The ocellated turkey (Meleagris ocellata) is a species of turkey residing primarily in the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico, as well as in parts of Belize and Guatemala. It is a relative of the North American wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo), although it is somewhat smaller. The body feathers of both sexes are a mixture of bronze and green iridescent color, with neither sex possessing the beard typically found in wild turkeys. Tail feathers of both sexes are bluish-grey with an eye-shaped, blue-bronze spot near the end with a bright gold tip. These spots, or ocelli (for which the ocellated turkey is named) have been likened to the patterning typically found on peafowl. This ocellated turkey was photographed near Tikal in the Petén region of Guatemala.Photograph credit: Charles J. Sharp
Tip of the moment...
Tag your image uploads

When uploading images or other media for use in Wikipedia articles, always remember to add the appropriate copyright tag to show what license the material is under, or if it is in the public domain. You can do this with the drop-down menu that lists common licenses, or leave the list on the default setting and add the template manually in the box above it.

There is also a list of more copyright tags.

To add this auto-randomizing template to your user page, use {{totd-random}}
