About

Vijay David is one of Malaysia’s top vocalists with a career that spans over 40 music-filled years. He has performed at almost every known club for live music throughout Malaysia, Singapore, and the rest of Asia.

Vijay David has jumped on tables, poured beer on himself, and worked the crowd into a frenzy with high-octane versions of songs like Bad Company’s 'Rock Steady' or Freddie Mercury’s 'I Was Born To Love You'. Vijay David is a soul man too, delivering soul standards like the Commodore’s 'Easy' or Rod Stewart’s 'I Was Only Joking' with equal flair.

He honed his craft so well that he aced the 1989 Carlsberg Top of the Pubs contest with a fiery performance of Bad Company’s Rock Steady, a soulful rendition of The Great Pretender, and a Louis Armstrong-imitation on the title track from the musical, Hello Dolly.

He continued to sing and perform in pubs in the 1990s. One of his most treasured memories was when he was performing with the late Paul Ponnudorai in the band Parenheit.

Vijay David has not just done the pub circuit either, he has sung on jingles like Nestle and Milo and sung backing vocals on recordings and performances by local artistes such as Jamal Abdillah, Ramlah Ram, Shima, Ella, Elaine Kang, Sara Loo, DJ Dave, Fauziah Latiff, Khatijah Ibrahim, Michael Veerapen, Mac Chew, Jenny Chin, Lewis Pragasam, the late Sudirman Haji Arshad and Search.
