Velalar Engineering College is an engineering college located at Thindal, Erode district in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. It is affiliated to Anna University and accredited 'A' Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
History
[edit]The Vellalar College of Engineering and Technology Trust was founded in Erode district, Tamil Nadu, in October 1983 by forty one philanthropists of Kongu Vellalar Community. The Trust established Kongu Engineering College in 1984. Other institutions founded by the Trust are Kongu Polytechnic College in 1983, Kongu Arts and Science College in 1994, Kongu Industrial Training Center in 1997 and Kongu National Matriculation Higher Secondary School in 2002.

Library
[edit]The central library was established in the year 2001.It is housed in a four storeyed building located at the eastern side in the main building.The total area of the library is 1197.86 sq.m It is well equipped with reference books, textbooks, journals, magazines and newspapers etc. All the books are bar-coded and bar-code laser scanners are used at the circulation counter for book transactions.CCTV surveillance system with 17 cameras is functioning in the library. All books are classified according to D.D.C Scheme.Seating capacity of the library is 300 Provides Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) service to its users in addition to the other usual services.Provides photocopying and printing facilities.34 terminals with head phones and mikes are available in the Digital Library section with internet access facility to facilitate access to the DELNET, NPTEL, e_books and IEEE ASPP online resources. It is main source of knowledge, which is an integral and important part of our institute for higher learning.The library aims to stock all the books and periodicals that the students and staff members are expected to read and enrich their knowledge.
Placement
[edit]The college has a dynamic and well-established "Training and Placement Cell" headed by a Dean/Placement and assisted by two placement Officers along with one faculty co-coordinator from each Department as well as student co-coordinators from each Department.
Placement is the main institutional activity to extends job opportunities to the students under proper guidance. The placement cell interacts with many organizations across the country for arranging campus interviews for the placement of final year students.
The training and placement call arranges career guidance programmes (CGP), soft skills programmes, personality, development programmes through external experts. Such programmes are arranged for the students to develop their communication skills and to build their self-confidence. Also trainings in aptitude and in C,C++ language are arranged to improve their technical knowledge. Before the campus interviews, mock interviews are conducted to enhance the skills of the students and to motivate them in order to enable them to face the interviews successfully. The pre-final year students are also trained with the help of expertise of final year students (already placed)
MOUs have been signed with reputed companies for soft skills, guest lectures, industrial visits, project guidance and recruitments.
Accommodation
[edit]The College maintains its reputation for high standards of the hostels. The Gents hostel accommodates 250 students and the Ladies hostel accommodates 550 students. The hostels being home away from home are designed to be comfortable for studies and stay. Every students has to submit a separate application for admission to the hostel. The hostels are under the direct control of the Principal who it the Ex-officio warden. The Warden will be assisted by Deputy Wardens and hostel staff.
A wireless access point at Boys hostel and an omnidirectional Wi-Fi antenna installed at Ladies hostel enable the students to access the internet by 24x7
