Article Evaluation

[edit]

Name of article: Bryan High School (Texas)

This is the high school that I went to, and it doesn't have much added to it except for an overrepresented section on athletics. It has low activity, so it is an ideal place to begin to grow comfortable on Wikipedia.

Lead

[edit]

The lead here is representative of the overall quality of the article, which is, frankly, disappointing. It is certainly concise, I'll give it that. I suggest that more needs to be added to the article as a whole, and then the lead can be updated to describe a little more on the technical manner in which Bryan High operates as well as a few of the qualities that it is known for in its community.

Content

[edit]

What little content there is actually does seem up to date, but it centers far too heavily on the athletics department. There should certainly be extensive mention of the grading systems, order of classes, and other extra-curricular opportunities. Additionally I would recommend an overview of the academic courses available such as AP, IB, and college credit courses. There should be a description of the demographic make-up of the student body, along with population numbers for students, staff, and faculty. The location, community-engagement, management, facilities, and any significant events that have occurred or occur regularly at Bryan High should also be addressed

Tone and Balance

[edit]

Honestly, there are no tone issues mostly because there's not enough writing for a tone or bias to have developed. The neutrality should be preserved., but more views of a wider variety of interests in the school's development beyond athletics should be explored to prevent the article from being so lopsided.

Sources and References

[edit]

The sources are overall lacking, in that there ought to be more of them, and they should come from sources of greater scholastic repute. News articles from the community and vague websites are not a good basis for encyclopedic knowledge. There is also one or two clearly stated facts that do not have a source listed for them, and they should either be removed or backed up. No real attempt at finding comprehensive sources of knowledge on Bryan High is evident, as the sources mostly seem intended to back up one fact each, and as a result the final product has a piecemeal feel to it.

Organization

[edit]

There is no organization here beyond basic lists. While helpful, the information present should be expanded on and many new sections need to be created entirely.

Images and Media

[edit]

There are no images or media present, which is a flaw for there should at the very least be pictures of the building itself if not yearbook photos or pictures sourced from the community.

Checking the talk page

[edit]

The talk page is particularly telling of the neglect of this page, as there appears to be no discussion beyond that which is generated by a bot working to correct links on the page to outside sources. Evidently, this page has been written primarily by one editor and rarely checked in on over the years.

Overall impressions

[edit]

Pretty much a total rewrite is necessary.
