Mike Dowdall

Mike Dowdall (9 February 1930 - 7 April 2017) was a British businessman, best known for having served as Chairman of Lever France, Chairman of BOCM Silcock, Director of Unilever and Chairman of Geest.

Career

Educated at the London School of Economics, Dowdall joined Unilever in 1954 as a management trainee. He went on to work in the UK detergents business in various marketing and sales roles. He worked briefly as a Marketing Director for Lever Brothers, Ireland, before moving to Germany to become Marketing Director of Lever Sunlicht in Germany in 1967.Cite error: The opening <ref> tag is malformed or has a bad name (see the help page).

In 1971 he became Marketing Member for Detergents Co-ordination and in 1975 he was appointed Chairman of Lever France. Five years later he was appointed Chairman of BOCM Silcock, the Unilever subsidiary animal feeds company

and in 1982 he became Chairman of Unilever Agribusiness Group in the UK and Ireland.

Dowdall became Deputy Co-ordinator of Detergents in 1984, and a year later took on the role of Co-ordinator. He was appointed a Unilever Director a year after that.

Dowdall retired from Unilever in 1991. He later became Chairman of Geest, the foods company, and went on to become Chairman of Dairy Crest.
