Background

[edit]

In 1994, the American composer John Corigliano suggested that WNYC begin a program of commissioning music as part of the celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of its FM station.[1] The works by Gould, Glass, and Anderson were originally performed at the 50th Anniversary concert.[2]

Release

[edit]

It was released on compact disc in December 2002.[1] Because artists and composers had contracts with other record labels, this album was not sold commercially; rather it was given to people who donated.[2]

Reception

[edit]

David Moore's 2003 review for American Record Guide called it "an interesting program with considerable variety of idiom" and said "This is fine music well performed. You should hear it."[3]
