World's Biggest Coffee Morning is the biggest fundraising event held by Macmillan Cancer Support. Each year the general public hosts their own Coffee Morning, which primarily take place within the UK where the charity operate, although events are held worldwide. The donations recieved go towards Macmillan services.
History
[edit]The first coffee morning was held in 1990, with a social gathering where the cost of the coffee was donated to Macmillan. The first nationwide Coffee Morning took place in 1991, with 2,600[1] people registering to host one. Each year, more and more people have registered, and in 2010, 43,000 hosts raised £8 million. Since it's inception, World's Biggest Coffee Morning has raised over £60 million.
Through the years, the coffee mornings have diversified into many different fundraising events. These include world record attempts for the highest coffee morning(on a jet fighter in 2004), the most distant coffee morning (Antarctica in 2002) and the world’s deepest coffee morning (down Poldark Mine, Cornwall in 2002).
Corporate Supporters
[edit]The official partner of coffee morning is M&S Cafe, who are donating money of the sale price of certain products. Other supporters include Kenco coffee and Silver Spoon sugar company.
