Case Fatality Rate
[edit]Of critical note, Case Fatality Rates (CFR) will change as additional research and data are available.
China
[edit]As of February 24, the WHO has reported the CFR in China has reduced to 0.7% for patients with symptom onset after February 1st.[1]

As of February 17, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention published a study[2] of mainland China cases reported up to February 11th, 2020, of 72,314 people, 1023 died with an overall case fatality rate of 2.3%. Rates varied by age as follows:
Age | CFR |
---|---|
0-9 | No deaths |
10-19 | .2% |
20-29 | .2% |
30-39 | .2% |
40-49 | .4% |
50-59 | 1.3% |
60-69 | 3.6% |
70-79 | 8.0% |
80+ | 14.8% |
Rates varied by Comorbidity (Complicating Conditions) as follows:
Condition | CFR |
---|---|
No Comorbidity | 0.9% |
Cardiovascular Disease | 10.5% |
Diabetes | 7.3% |
Chronic Respiratory Disease | 6.3% |
Hypertension | 6.0% |
Cancer | 5.6% |
Italy
[edit]From my research the data is limited for Italy but what is available show high rates due to the large portion the population being older and having complicating conditions.
South Korea
[edit]Has low rates and this appears at first research due to the relatively young overall population.
Diamond Princess Cruise Ship
[edit]A small amount of research and data - but very interesting since it was a closed environment: https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/seisakunitsuite/bunya/newpage_00032.html
Germany
[edit]Widespread testing in Germany has yielded a much lower case fatality rate than that seen in other countries--0.5%: https://www.npr.org/2020/03/25/820595489/why-germanys-coronavirus-death-rate-is-far-lower-than-in-other-countries
