Lam Ching Ying (Chinese: 林正英; 1952–1997) was a Hong Kong stuntman, actor, film producer, action director and director. Upon his death in 1997 Lam had featured in over 132 films with multiple credits as a director and producer. With a film career spanning 3 decades he is was regarded as the most renowned stuntmen and martial artist in Hong Kong[1]

Having studied Peking Opera at Hong Kong Chun Chau Drama Society Lam began his career at the age of 17 as a stuntman and trainer at Shaw Brothers Studio. During his time here he appeared in a number of extra roles including one in Lo Wei's 1970 Wuxie film Brothers Five. as well as extra work he often acted as a body double for female actors due to his slender frame. Through talks with his Brothers Five co-star Sammo Hung, Lam became assistant action coriorgarpher on Golden Harvests 1971 film The Big Boss working alongside future star Bruce Lee as well being cast in a small role as one of Lee's extended family. Lam continued to work with Lee both behind and in front of the camera throughout the 70s in all of Lee's subsequent films Fists of Fury, Game of Death and Enter The Dragon often as an extra, choreographer or stunt double. One of Lam's most notable roles was doubling for Shih Kien in the final fight scene of Enter the Dragon.[2] Lam continued to work with director Sammo Hung appearing in his of his most popular Wuxia films The Iron-Fisted Monk, Warriors Two and Magnificent Butcher.

In 1981 Lam played a starring role as Leung Yee-tai in Hung's The Prodigal Son which alongside Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao and Billy Chan was awarded Best Action Choreography at the 1983 Hong Kong Film Awards. Lam's performance in the film is often regarded as of the best and accurate depictions of Wing Chun in film.[3][4][5] He was further nominated for Best Action Choreography in 1984 for Winners and Sinners as well as in 1986 for My Lucky Stars. In 1985, Lam starred in horror comedy Mr Vampire in which he played Taoist priest Master Kau. His portrayal of the character earned him a nomination for best supporting actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards and would go on to define his career through sequels Mr. Vampire 2 and 3 as well as a host of spin-offs films. He made his directorial debut in another Jiangshi film Vampire vs Vampire.

Throughout the nineties Lam suffered from typecasting with numberous roles as a kung fu master or Taoist priest with occasional roles as a police officer or authoritative figures. In 1994 he directed and produced what was to be his final film The Green Hornet before moving to the small screen to star in ATV's 1995 series Vampire Expert reprising his role as a Taoist priest. Lam's final work was a supporting role in TV series Monk at Thirty (一枝花和尚) which was broadcast posthumously after his death in 1997.
