Micha Star Liberty is an American attorney, mediator, and advocate, specializing in sexual assault, harassment, human trafficking, and employment discrimination cases. She is the founder of Liberty Law , a firm based in Oakland and San Francisco, dedicated to providing legal representation for survivors of sexual violence and workplace injustice.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Liberty earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and her Juris Doctor from the University of California, College of the Law, San Francisco.[2] Prior to law school, she worked at the White House during the Clinton administration and with U.S. Representatives Mel Watt and Anna Eshoo. During her legal studies, she served as a judicial extern to Senior United States District Court Judge Thelton E. Henderson and was an editor for the Women’s Law Journal.[3]
Legal career
[edit]Micha Star Liberty founded to focus on advocating for survivors of sexual assault, harassment, and human trafficking, and to hold perpetrators accountable. Over the years, she has expanded her practice to include workplace discrimination and employment-related disputes. Liberty is known for her trauma-informed approach, ensuring survivors feel supported and empowered throughout the legal process.[4] She has been recognized by her peers with multiple accolades, including being named a "Super Lawyer" annually since 2009 and being featured as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in California by The Daily Journal.[5]
Liberty has held leadership positions in numerous legal organizations, including the American Association for Justice, Consumer Attorneys of California, and the National Crime Victim’s Bar Association.[6][7][8] She has also contributed to legal publications, including the California Client Communications Manual and California Basic Practice Handbook.[9][10]
Advocacy and consulting
[edit]In addition to her legal practice, Liberty is the founder of Lionhearted Leader (LHL) , a consultancy offering leadership training, diversity and inclusion strategies, and trauma-informed practices for organizations. LHL's mission is to create safe and legally compliant workplaces while fostering leadership that encourages growth and accountability.[11]
Liberty also founded The Soaring Center (TSC) , which offers support to sexual assault survivors and advocates navigating the legal system. TSC provides training, testimony preparation, and crisis management for survivors, as well as consultation services for attorneys and advocates working on sexual assault cases.[12]
Entrepreneurship
[edit]Micha Star Liberty is the CEO of Radiant Star Roasters (RSR), a coffee company with a mission to support women’s rights by sourcing beans from women-owned farms and cooperatives. The company donates 15% of its profits to initiatives supporting women in the coffee industry and is committed to promoting social change and equality through its business practices.[13]
Public speaking and writing
[edit]Liberty is a frequent public speaker, focusing on sexual assault litigation, trauma-informed legal practices, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). She is also an active educator on issues surrounding survivor advocacy and workplace harassment.[14] Her upcoming book, Evolutionista, delves into personal and professional evolution, offering insights and strategies for transformative growth in leadership and organizational contexts. The book draws on her extensive experience in legal advocacy and leadership training, providing a roadmap for individuals and organizations seeking to lead with purpose and integrity.[15]
