The term Finnic languages has been used to denote certain subgroupings of Uralic languages that include the Finnish language. From the most to least inclusive they are:
- Baltic-Finnic languages — A core family that also includes eg. Estonian and Karelian.
- Finno-Volgaic languages — Additionally includes the Sami languages, Mordvinic languages and Mari.
- Finno-Permic languages — Additionally includes the Permic languages.
