Adrian Joseph Wilbert (born September 23, 1998), known professionally as Triillbert, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and engineer.

Early Life

[edit]

Wilbert was born September 23, 1998 in San Angelo, Texas. Wilbert lived most of his early life in Big Spring, Texas. He began writing music under the pseudonym "Wick Willy" at 15 years old.

Career

[edit]

2015-2016: "Wick Willy", Icy Boy, career beginnings

[edit]

Wilbert's rap career began when he released a three and a half minute freestyle song "Icy Boy" on YouTube on January 20, 2015, which had amassed questionable popularity within his community. In March of 2016, after over a year long hiatus, Wilbert, 17, released "Too Fly", a song written over the Geeked Up Challenge instrumental, followed by "Flex Squad", written over Wild Boy by Machine Gun Kelly in May 2016, both of which have been released on SoundCloud.

2017: "Triillbert", new style

[edit]

In late 2016, Wilbert adopted the moniker "Triillbert," a portmanteau of the words trill (to be true to oneself and real with others) and his last name Wilbert. He then began to develop a new style for his artistry shortly after graduating Big Spring High School in May 2017. In December 2017, he released his first single under his new identity, "Legacy" onto his SoundCloud account.

2018: Damaged, rising popularity

[edit]

At the beginning February 2018, Triillbert ended his year-long relationship, due to her continuous infidelity, sending him into a state of severe depression and anxiety.

While helping a fellow local artist, Haiden Juarez, better known as "Realize", record and engineer his first EP, Juarez, played sets of chords based around Changes by XXXTentacion, and sang his own rendition of the lyrics. Shortly after, Triillbert produced the beat, recording the piano and adding drums and synth, and the pair recorded the song's hook. Triillbert took the next day to finish writing the song and record it. The single, "Damaged", was released February 9, 2018, on all streaming platforms. Wilbert then began drawing attention from music listeners and other artists alike, gaining a humble following on all social media accounts.

Wilbert, along with Juarez and director Jaye Hernandez, began filming for the "Damaged" music video on June 25, 2018. Filming locations take place in Big Spring, with scenes at the Comanche Trail Park, their airport, Scenic Mountain and Hotel Settles, among the few. Filming wrapped up July 18, 2018, and was edited in under a week by Wilbert himself, who is also credited as creative director. The video was released August 7, 2018, in an attempt to coincide with the half-year mark of Damaged's digital audio release.

Musical style

[edit]

Wilbert's influences include Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, XXXTentacion, The Weeknd, and ScHoolboy Q. He states that he enjoys listening to late-90's/early 2000's R&B music, which is where he draws a bit of inspiration from.

Personal life

[edit]

Wilbert has lived in Big Spring, Texas for 16 years and graduated with honors at Big Spring High School.
