Matt Chamberlain, born April 17, 1967 in San Pedro, California, is one of the world's least-prominent, yet widely-heard session drummers. Chamberlain began playing drums at the age of 2. Chamberlain lives in Seattle, Washington.
Chamberlain received his first set of drums at age 15, and studied with David Garibaldi, Murray Spivack, Chuck Flores, and Greg Bissonette before being awarded a scholarship to study at North Texas State University three years later.
Chamberlain is possibly most famous for his short stint with the band Pearl Jam, which he joined on a temporary basis as a "hired gun"[1]
in 1991. Chamberlain played around 10 shows with Pearl Jam between July 4, 1991 and August 23, 1991[2], and can be seen on the band's video for the song Alive. He then joined the Saturday Night Live Band and, per his suggestion, was replaced by Dave Abbruzzese.
Chamberlain's other work includes huge contribution to the tours and albums of Tori Amos. He has also recorded or gigged with Morrissey, Fiona Apple, Christina Aguilera, Critters Buggin', Weapon of Choice, Stone Gossard, Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, Tim and Neil Finn, David Bowie, Elton John, Peter Gabriel, The Wallflowers, Natalie Merchant, Kenny Rogers, Bill Frisell, the Saturday Night Live Band, Robbie Williams, Kanye West, Garbage, Anika Moa, Shakira, John Mayer, Brad Mehldau, Liz Phair, Chris Isaak, Dave Navarro, Sam Phillips and William Shatner.
Matt has been through a number of endorsements with a number of companies including Sabian, Bosphorus[3], and Zildjian[4] cymbals and Ayotte, Drum Workshop[5] , and Ludwig[6] drums.
