Castor 4B is a target launch vehicle consisting of one Castor 4B solid propellant stage, same motor as used on Maxus sounding rocket, Castor 4 with thrust vector control (TVC). MRT-1 uses the same solid rocket motor, but adapted to be air launched by dropping from C-17 transport aircraft. IRBM tested on 12 December 2019 from Vandenberg AFB also used Castor 4B.[1]
ait-2 is a target launch vehicle consisting of the Castor 4B first stage and M57A second stage. M57A is a third stage of retired LGM-30 Minuteman I and II missiles. ait-2 was launched only once.[1]
IRBM-T is a target launch vehicle consisting of two Orion rocket stages of Pegasus and Orbital Boost Vehicle heritage: Orion 50SXLG as the first stage and Orion 50XLT as the second stage. It is air-launched by dropping from C-17 transport aircraft.[3]
LV-2 and LV-3 are modified Trident C4 SLBMs used as target launch vehicles. LV-2 uses first and second stages of Trident, while LV-3 uses two first stages and the second stage. LV-3 has not been launched yet.[4]
