Being located outside Toronto, the station was geographically in the former Fare Zone 2 before the implementation of the One Fare program on February 26, 2024, which allows riders paying with Presto, credit card, or debit card to transfer free.[1] However, to avoid implementing a payment-on-exit system, the station was part of the Toronto TTC fare zone despite being located in York Region.[2] This was in contrast to TTC-contracted bus routes, where riders were required to pay extra fare (for YRT) when travelling beyond the municipal boundary at Steeles Avenue. This was analogous to the situation in 1968, when the TTC had an internal fare zone system and then-Zone 2 fares were charged when crossing the zones on buses or streetcars, yet no extra fare was required to reach five new subway stations which opened outside the pre-amalgamation Toronto city limits in Zone 2 that year, although the Zone 2 fare was charged when transferring to connecting bus routes in the suburban municipalities of Metropolitan Toronto.[3] Similarly, at this (as well as at the adjacent Highway 407) station, separate fares were charged when transferring between the TTC subway and connecting YRT or Züm buses, which are the only surface routes serving it.

Transfers must be completed within two hours, or three hours if GO Transit is used. Riders paying by cash, Presto ticket – such as the TTC day pass – and those using the Union Pearson Express are not eligible for the free or discounted transfer. Riders using a Presto card loaded with a TTC monthly pass do not receive a discount when transferring to GO Transit. The province reimburses the participating transit operators involved in the program for lost revenue from the free or discounted transfers.[4]

Transit service along Woodbine Avenue began in 1921 by Hollinger Bus Lines. The Woodbine route ran from Danforth north to O'Connor Drive. Before then residents along the road was assumed would not likely be travelling south or could walk to their destination. Woodbine intersected with a few east–west streetcar lines:

  • King - began service in 1888 by the TSR, transferred to TRC in 1891 and taken over by the Toronto Transportation Commission (now the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)) in 1921; route ran on Queen when it reached Woodbine and now numbered as 504
  • Lee (Avenue) - operated by the TSR 1889-1891, transferred to the TRC in 1891 and merged into King route in 1893; route ran on Queen when it reached Woodbine
  • Woodbine - operated by the TSR 1887 to 1891, transferred to the TRC 1891 and merged with King route in 1893; route ran on Queen when it reached Woodbine
  • Danforth - began service in 1913 by the TCR and transferred to the TTC in 1921; merged with Bloor route in 1923 and replaced by Bloor Danforth subway line in 1966

The privately operated Hollinger route was taken over by the TTC in 1954 and retained the route name. The opening of Woodbine subway station in 1966 changed transit patterns, as many residents now needed to get all the way north to Danforth.

In Markham, Woodbine was served by TTC Route 24D Victoria Park between 1973 and 2016 under contract to the Town of Markham, until having operation taken over by York Region Transit (YRT). https://transittoronto.ca/bus/routes/24-victoria-par.shtml

Today Woodbine is served by five different routes and two operators. The northern part of the route, from Danforth to O'Connor is served by the TTC 91 Woodbine and 93 Parkview Hills bus routes. South of Danforth is served by TTC 92 Woodbine South bus route. https://transittoronto.ca/bus/routes/24-victoria-par.shtml

In Markham the road is served by YRT Route 24 Woodbine.[5] The far north of the road, through the town of Keswick is served by YRT 51 Keswick Local.[6]
