The Garrison Institute is an organization involved in the development of professional fields that incorporate some aspect of contemplation, meditation, and engaged action as well as managing and hosting meditation and contemplative practice retreats throughout the year. The institute is governed by a board of trustees and receives guidance from a group of spiritual advisors as well as an advisory council, comprised of notable leaders, scientists, and educators such as Daniel Goleman. Other notable people affiliated with the Garrison Institute include B. Alan Wallace, Paul Ekman, and Sharon Salzberg. The current CEO and President are Mary Pearl and Diana Calthorpe Rose, who lead a permanent staff of about 25 employees.[1]

The Garrison Institute notably hosts the Mind and Life Institute's summer research conference and retreat, advancing collaborative research among developmental scientists, neuroscientists, teachers, educational researchers, and Buddhist contemplative practitioners and scholars.[2]

The Garrison Institute is housed in a former Capuchin monastery and overlooks the Hudson river, directly across from the United States Military Academy at West Point.[3]
