Islington Bus Co.

[edit]

Islington Bus Co. was a community resource and information centre that operated exclusively in Islington between 1972 and 1988. The Bus Co. operated under a contract with Islington Council for the provision of services to support Islington community organisations.

One of the priorities of the council at the time was to promote community development and local participation and the Bus Co. worked extensively with several hundred local voluntary organisations offering resources, equipment, printing, sound and video recording facilities, information and training as well as collaborative projects in areas such as under fives, play and youth work, community arts, community development, campaigns etc.

The work of the Bus Co. was recognised locally and nationally and it was featured in a BBC documentary, 'A Bus for all reasons' in 1976 as part of the Look Stranger documentary series.
