Super Cup winners
[edit]The Belgian Super Cup (Dutch: Belgische Supercup; French: Supercoupe de Belgique) is the third trophy available to clubs in the Belgian football system. Introduced in 1979, the super cup is a played as a single match between the Belgian First Division A champions (which also acts as the Super Cup host) and the Belgian Cup winners. In cases when the same team wins both competitions, the Belgian Cup runners-up participates as the second club, i.e. effectively making the game a replay of the previous season's cup final.
As in many other European countries, the game is usually played as an opener marking the beginning of the following football season, usually in late July. The Super Cup has been held every year since 1979, with the only exceptions being 1989 and 2020.
