Fatma Moalla is a Tunisian woman who was born on January 14th in 1939. She excelled in school and became a well known mathematician. The International Fatma Moalla Award for the Popularisation of Mathematics is now given in her honor.[1]

Biography

Fatma Moalla was born in Tunis, Tunisia in 1939.[2] Her father's name was Mohamed Moalla and he worked selling books.[3] She attended secondary school at Lycée de la Rue du Pacha.[4] In 1956, Moalla switched schools and began attending Lycée Carnot of Tunis where she chose to specialize in mathematics.[5] Moalla then attended university at "Institut des Hautes Études de Tunis...[and] She graduated with her mathematics degree in June 1960."[2] Moalla went to Paris to earn her Agrégation in 1961 even though France and Tunisia were in conflict at the time.[2]

Contributions

Moalla has published papers on Finsler Spaces and geometry and worked as an assistant at Faculté des Sciences Mathématique, Physiques et Naturelles.[2]

The International Fatma Moalla Award for the Popularisation of Mathematics is now given each year in honor of Fatma Moalla.[6]
