A4 is a north–south motorway in the Netherlands, running from Amsterdam in the province of North Holland, southwards through the cities of The Hague and Rotterdam, to the Belgian border near Zandvliet. A4 is divided into three parts, the first and longest part from Amsterdam through The Hague to Delft, the second part connecting the A20 and A15 in the city of Rotterdam, and the final part starting near Heijningen, where the A29 and A59 meet, to the Belgian border. These three parts are planned to be connected. The highway is 119 kilometres (74 mi) long. [2]

The missing link between Delft and Vlaardingen has already been authorised by the theen minister of Transport and Waterworks Karla Peijs on the 14th of May 2006. This section is planned to be opened in end 2015.[3] There are no authorized plans for the other missing link between Pernis and the A29 near Klaaswaal, though right-of-way has been acquired for the future A29 interchange with A4.
