The Bunker The Bunker is an initiative of the AHCYC whose aim is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for youth of the area aged between 12 and 17. The Bunker started in 2005 as a café style venue based at the Aldgate RSL and evolved in 2006 into a live music venue still based at the Aldgate RSL. Local youth bands are offered a realistic environment to play with full sound and lighting to complement their stage performance. An average of 50 youth attend each month and support is growing. A highlight of 2006 was the release of a CD in December of the bands who had performed during the year. The CD was mixed and featured artwork form local youth. Each month, local youth are involved in the operation of The Bunker, whether just setting up or operating the sound desk on the night. A full schedule for 2008 is being developed and support is growing for the venue through word of mouth from the bands and supporters.

The Bunker was set up to provide young people between the ages of 12 and 17 with a place to get together in a safe, drug and alcohol free environment that was their own. It is a live music venue that offers local bands an environment to perfect their art and to expose them to all facets of music and production. We have youth helping to plan the events as well as do the sound mixing and lighting. One of the aims of The Bunker is to have information available to help youth with life issues such as drug awareness, youth suicide etc. The Bunker is not a babysitting service - it is set up to encourage youth to be responsible for themselves, while providing parent based back up support on the night. The Bunker runs on the last Saturday of the month from 7.30pm to 10.30pm at the Aldgate RSL in Kemp Road.
