History
[edit]Formation and early productions (2009-10)
[edit]The Falls formed in Gympie, a small town in South-East Queensland. The band was formed after working on several projects while at school, under the original name Rock Action, working on different styles and genres. In 2009 the band recorded their first single, Speed Racer, with previous bassist Blake Thornley. While wokring on musical projects and rehearsing for the band throughout 2009, Thornley stated he was suffering from drug related-problems. After a brief, unsuccesful stint in rehab and continual disagreements in musical style Thornley left the band. The band continued to play live shows, without a bassist, until 2011, when Lennan Beattie auditioned, and finalized the band's line-up. Some of the band's influences include Interpol(band), Mogwai, Underoath and Arctic Monkeys.
2011
[edit]Shortly after gaining attention in the local music scene, playing several shows in mid 2011, record label, Propeller Recordings displayed interest in the band. Whilst currently negotiating a deal for a $1,000,000 contract, The Falls have agreed to sign to Propeller Recordings. The bands first single, Speed Racer was released by Propeller in July 2011 and followed by the record breaking success, the band plans to release the first EP in October through Propeller. Whilst staying true to their unique, revolutionary sound they have changed slightly from 2009 to 2011, with songs becoming more poppy, but also additional reverb and delay have become more obvious.
Acid on Andy (2011)
[edit]In early 2011, the band released a single called Psycho, under the pseudonym; Acid on Andy. Mainly concieved by Andrew Jelinek, this project does not feature Jack Tizzard.
Musical Style
[edit]Instrumentation
[edit]Like most other bands, members of The Falls are experienced with must generic musical instruments. While paying live shows, members of the band will swap instruments, according to the instrument they wrote the song on. This practice is not unheard of, with band Arcade Fire regularly doing this. To screen instrument-swapping from the audience, the band will often play small interludes between songs.
