About me

[edit]

I’m a student at Everett Community College. I’m a very big football fan. I follow the sport very heavily both in college and the NFL although I’m mainly a Seahawks fan and a Oregon Ducks fan. I became an Oregon Ducks fan because when I was starting to get into football Chip Kelly was still there and his offense with LaMichael James running for 1805 yards[1], kept me watching.

My Wikipedia activities

[edit]

My main interest in Wikipedia is the ability to freely edit information without being signed in. I think the fact that the site isn’t a mess with the editing ability anyone has is quite astonishing. If I end up working on content long term I would probably work on citing sources.

Article evaluation

[edit]

One of my favorite games of all time Counter-Strike: Global Offensive so I thought that this would be a good article to evaluate. So, I visited the CS:GO [2]article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: citations, professional scene, and the underrepresentation of the gameplay.

Citations

[edit]

One thing that is noticeable right away about the article is the total number of citations. There are a lot of good citations with up to-date-articles that I clicked through and explored. As I went through a few in each section I found that one of the citations in CS:GO 2 section had linked to a Reddit post as their source for a claim made about the removal of content. By the time I went back to the article the next day that article had been change still with a similar sentiment but now linking to a IGN article.

Professional scene

[edit]

As I was going through the article one of the main things I was if the write-up of the professional scene was written in a neutral tone. My impressions of this part of the article were quite good, as I read about different teams they each were given a fair shake and no teams were given more credit. This part of the article left me quite impressed and overall it was a good piece of information.

Underrepresentation of gameplay.

[edit]

Probably my biggest complaint about the article was the lack of info about the game itself. The gameplay part of the article only consisted of 3 paragraphs, which is relatively small compared to other parts of the article that I would consider less important. When I went to the article I wasn't expecting there to be a large write-up about the gameplay, but I felt such an important part of game shouldn't be the smallest part of the article.

Conclusion

[edit]

Overall, if I was grading the article I would give it a "B". It had a lot of good info from a lot of trustworthy sources that are constantly being updated and checked to make sure they are legitimate. I thought that the article was very neutral and gave things a fair shake, but I wish that an article about a game had more info about the gameplay.
