The Attack on Lipjan was a military engagement in Lipjan and its surroundings, in Serbia and Montenegro (present-day Kosovo). During the attack, Commander Ismet Asllani was killed in action.
Background
[edit]During the most difficult times of the Yugoslav regime, the Asllani family fed the Kosovo Liberation Army as well as a large part of the Kosovo-Albanian population with food.[1][2][3] Asllani supported financially knowledge and education system in Kosovo by awarding scholarships to hundreds of Albanian students to educate in western universities.
Attack
[edit]On March 24, 1999, when NATO started bombing Yugoslavia, Ismet Asllani was shot in the village of Konjuh after a highly planned action by the Serbian forces.[4]
Aftermath
[edit]Two of Asllani's brothers were also killed by Serbian forces approximately a month later, on April 19, 1999.[5]
Due to the occupation of the Albanian schools in Kosovo by Serbian forces, Ismet Asllani's house, which is located close to the center of Prishtina became an important place and service for the students of the faculty of medicine.[6]
