Anna Janaina Vitorino Murakawa was born on April 7, 1990, in Brazil.
Early life and education
[edit]Artistically known as Anna Murakawa, she began studying violin at the age 13 [1] in 2003 at a social project in São Paulo, Brazil named Projeto Guri.

Anna earned her first orchestra audition when she was 15 years old, only two years after starting on her music journey. When she was 17 years old, Anna Murakawa was invited to study violin[2] in Bulgaria, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance[3] (National Academy of Music “Pancho Vladigerov”, Bulgaria) in only 3 years instead of the conventional four. Murakawa was the first violin former student from Projeto Guri to study violin overseas.[4]
Following that, Anna Murakawa was invited to study at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA, where she completed a Certificate in Advanced Music Studies[5]. Still in the USA, the violinist finished her master's in music at The University of Louisville, USA. Murakawa then moved to Australia, concluding her Doctoral degree in 2019.[6]
Murakawa studied under masters like Ole Bohn[7], Tasmin Little, Haim Taub, Leon Spierer, Max Rabinovitsj, Richard Young, Andrés Cárdenes, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Stoika Milanova, Daniel Guedes, Jorge Risi, to name a few.
Carrer
[edit]As a soloist, Murakawa performed in the USA (UofL Symphony Orchestra, 2014), Brazil (Vilhena Symphony Orchestra[8], 2013; Prados Symphony Orchestra, 2006)[9], Costa Rica (UofL Sinfonietta, 2014), and in Europe (Sofia State Orchestra, 2011). She also played in Projeto Guri Symphony Orchestra as a concertmistress from 2003 to 2006, Heliopolis Symphony Orchestra (2006 – 2007), Youth Orchestra of The Americas (USA, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Germany 2008 - 2011)[10], OCAM Chamber Orchestra of the University of SP (2006 – 2007), Pancho Vladigerov Symphony Orchestra (Bulgaria, 2008 – 2011), Altoona Symphony Orchestra (Altoona, 2011 – 2012), Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic (Pittsburgh, 2011), Trans Siberian Orchestra (Lousville, 2013), Kentucky Opera (Lousville, 2013), University of Louisville Symphony Orchestra (Louisville, 2012 – 2014), University Symphony Orchestra (Texas, 2014), Lubbock Symphony Orchestra (Lubbock, 2014), Femusc Symphony Orchestra (2007, 2008, 2017, 2018, 2019) and currently plays at The George Ellis Orchestra in Sydney.
Awards and Achievements
[edit]Anna Murakawa has also won several competitions internationally, such as the UofL Concerto Competition, Maria Terezia Competition, and the Austrian Chamber Music Competition and was awarded the University of Louisville Graduate Assistantship, Texas Tech University Graduate Assistantship, and the " Ted & Susan Meller" Violin scholarship at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She also won Femusc distinguished student Prize (Brazil, 2019), Texas Tech University Graduate Assistantship (Lubbock, TX 2014), University of Louisville Graduate Assistantship (Louisville, KY 2012-2014), University of Louisville Concerto Competition Winner (Louisville, KY 2013), University of Louisville Summer Fellowship Award (Louisville, KY 2013) and the Projeto Guri Scholarship Program (São Paulo, Brazil 2008-2011).
Instrument
[edit]Murakawa plays on the 1878 Collin-Mezin violin. Her bow was handmade by Vlado Tilev in Bulgaria.
Languages
[edit]Anna Murakawa is polyglot. She speaks 7 languages - Portuguese, English, Bulgarian, French, Spanish,Italian and Russian.[11]
