  • On 31 January 2006, the Thai Wikipedia was first recognized along with English Wikipedia in the Thai press. In 2007, a thesis, Thai Wikipedia and Communicating Knowledge to the Public, was published by a graduate student from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University.

Characteristics

[edit]

Thai Wikipedia is different from English Wikipedia in a number of ways.

  • All other languages are not accepted on Thai Wikipedia. If the content is from a Wikipedia article written in a different language, you must translate it into Thai that is comprehensible.
  • The Thai Wikipedia was decided to phase out the use of local image uploads and to exclusively use Wikimedia Commons for images and other media in the future.
  • Nationalities and languages use names after country names such as Sweden (not Swedish). Except for names that have been used for so long that they are acceptable or exist in Thai dictionaries, such as German, Greek, Irish, Scottish, Dutch, Swiss, English, and American.

Community

[edit]
  • The administrator (Thai: ผู้ดูแลระบบ, แอดมิน) are Wikipedia editors who have been granted the technical ability to perform certain special actions on the Thai Wikipedia. These include the ability to block and unblock user accounts, IP addresses, and IP ranges from editing, edit fully protected pages, protect and unprotect pages from editing, delete and undelete pages, rename pages without restriction, and use certain other tools. Currently, Thai Wikipedia has 16 administrators (including bots).
  • Unlike the French and English Wikipedias, the Thai Wikipedia does not have an Arbitration Committee.

Policies

[edit]
  • Thai Internet laws are not considered to be applicable because the server is located in Florida and follows U.S. law, but Thai law still applies to cases related to Thailand’s benefits.
  • The Thai edition of the English policy ignores All Rules (directly linked to one of Five Pillars), If a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia.
  • Republication of works after the expiration of the copyright term does not reset the copyright term. Thai state documents are public domain, though creative works produced by or commissioned by government offices are protected by copyright.
  • The equivalent to the English Wikipedia's featured articles and good articles are บทความระดับคัดสรร and บทความระดับคุณภาพ respectively.

Assessments of articles quality

[edit]

Internal quality control

[edit]

Internal quality control is used by Wikipedia to organize, support, and develop content for its users. The quality control assessment range starts with stage evaluation. the "frame", which is then refined and developed into "fair" and "good", respectively, until the highest internally assessed quality standards are reached at the "selection article" stage. Among the 80,000 articles in June 2014, there were 110 articles that were curated (about 0.0013% of the total).
