Community Composting in New York City is the broadly-defined collection of composting activities, organized or unorganized, that take place at the community level within New York City. Some definitions of community composting in use within New York City are concerned with concepts of scale, locality, mechanization, and ownership. Some community composting activites in New York City have produced highly-organized participatory systems, which have in turn been analyzed by academic researchers across numerous domains including biological sciences, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, sociology, history, and business development.
New Yorkers participate in community composting for numerous and widely varying reasons, including recreational, sustainability, and socio-political purposes.
