Shaykh Naeem Abdul Wali was born Gary Edwards in 1964 in Crossville, Tennessee but grew up in Indiana. He is an Islamic Scholar and a well-known American Convert to Islam. He currently resides in Houston, Texas with his wife and three sons.

[edit]He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Entomology from Purdue University.
Abroad

[edit]In 1991 he moved to Medina, Saudi Arabia, to begin a series of studies in Islamic disciplines.
In Turkey
[edit]After spending two years in Medina he pursued further studies in the Fatih district of Istanbul, Turkey under various traditional scholars including his spiritual director Shaykh Mahmud Ustaosmanoglu (popularly known as Mahmud Effendi).
UK and Australia
After leaving Turkey in 2003 , the shaykh taught in the UK and Australia prior to moving to Houston. TX.

[edit]While in Istanbul Shaykh Naeem took a formal pledge (Bayah) with Shaykh Mahmud Effendi in the Naqshabandi Mujjadidi path.
