Proposed

[edit]

Railways connecting with adjacent countries are proposed, and some internal lines. [1]

A railway line to Saudi Arabia at an estimated cost of $3.5bn. The project includes a 729km international line that connects the Yemeni-Saudi border to five cities in Yemen. [2]

The second axis includes a line to Oman, which extends across the Yemeni-Omani border at a length of 766km.

The third axis will consist of a 386km Balhaf-Aden line while the fourth axis will extend from Hazm al-Juf, Marib, Shabwa to Balhaf port on the Arabian Sea at a length of 578km.

The government is also planning to add a fifth axis extending from Sana'a to the Hodeida port on the Red Sea.

The Bridge of the Horns would provide a link over the Red Sea to Djibouti.

Closed

[edit]

A short narrow gauge military railway existed at one time from Aden.

Standards

[edit]

Future railways in Yemen are likely to employ standard gauge and other world standards such as 25kV AC.
