  1. Gaynor, G. (1997). I Will Survive: The Book (pp.1). Macmillan.

This book was written by Gloria Gaynor, the singer of the song “I Will Survive”. Gaynor gives her fans an insight into what the song meant to her and how it has affected her life since it became a huge hit. She also includes stories of her fans and how the song had changed their lives around. This book was also written to serve as an inspiration to her fans that have struggled with any type of issue in their lives by giving them insight into her own personal struggles that she has faced. For my Queer Object Project, I plan to incorporate information pertaining to how the song “I Will Survive” is also seen as a gay anthem. I think that referencing or even quoting Gaynor’s book about the message she was hoping to proclaim would reinforce the affect this song had on the LGBT community at the time. This source is considered reliable because it was published by Macmillan which is a very well know company that is know to release trustworthy and fact checked information. Also, since this in a book, it is also considered reliable.

I believe that this source is going to be much more key when considering the information I want to include on my Wikipedia page. This essay explores the affect that disco, specifically “I Will Survive”, had on the LGBT movement and community at the time of its release. It focuses on the message of the song and how it perfectly embraced the struggles of the LGBT community at the time. Not only does this essay talk about the songs impact, but it also focuses on what was going on in the LGBT community at the time, which played a huge factor into why this song had such an impact at the time of its release. This essay is regarded as being reliable because it was published by a well-regarded academic press and it also references and cites many other scholarly articles.

This article encompasses a lot of the information that I want to include on my Wikipedia page. It does into depth on the popularity of the song by first giving a short background of when it was published and where. Then it goes into how this song specifically applies to the LGBT community. The most useful piece of this article for my purposes are the quotes form Gloria Gaynor herself, her fans and also members of the LGBT community telling their personal opinion and experience with the song. This article was published by Millivres Prowler Limited in Gay Times and has an accessible archive online making it a reliable Wikipedia source.
