General Details

[edit]

Type: Sailing / Yacht Club

Head: Catherine Orcutt

The LJYC is a sailing club founded by local families in the surrounding area. Started originally by Caroline Gagnon as an opportunity for her sons to participate in a new summer sport, the club began to pick up more traction with the other surrounding locals. The first season had only 10 sailors and two instructors. From there, word of mouth spread this hobby club into a full sized organization. Volunteers produced themselves locally and families became more and more involved in order to grow the tiny space for sailing lessons. Since the club was initially private, it took years before it became a true organization. Government grants and more volunteers from the local area led this organization to grow into what it is today. It now host 30-40 students per week, with roughly 10 staff, and a permanent location. The organization is relatively new compared to many other sailing clubs but is getting larger every year.
