[edit]Abstract:
[edit]In this proposal I would like to invite fellow wikipedians for a round table to discuss about forming a team against fake and bogus journals because Wikipedia is now the primary source of information for most researchers. Forming a platform here could be very significant and helpful for Academia.
Keywords: Journal pubslishing, Fake journals, Roundtables.
When it comes to academic one of the primary source of information is collected from Wikipedia by researchers, students and by any individuals. I am a researcher and trying to be an active wikipedian since 2 years. As researcher I have authored 36 peer reviewed papers. I have came across couple of journals that pay anything for the nominal fees and In their website I can clearly see fake information are shown. IT took me some time to understand the structure how Academic Journals work. Later, I become Associate editor for DOAJ and It helped me in understanding the skeleton of academic journals.
An Academic Journals is a place where an researcher can express his valuable research. We need an regulatory for monitoring such journals. I can understand we cant stop such journals. They grow like mushrooms over night and they are disturbing the valuable environment. This is what is worrying. A real researcher find hard to publish single paper. Even some of my papers get multiple revisions before getting accepted. I was once a victim among such fake and bogus journals. They just publish anything. Few valuable papers got published in such journals and I feel I have made it available in wrong platform. It is because of my lack of awareness. If I start any board to create awareness I could say it will take years to reach among people and people will also feel am I legitimate. So I wish to propose Wikipedia to create a portal for Academic publications. The journals with Scopus, DOAJ, ACDB and etc . Can be listed and this create an legitimate platform to researcher to choose one journal for their valuable paper. This will help them in staying away from Fake journals. We also need a page for blacklisted journals where such bogus journals can be listed out and researchers can be warned. These regulations are very much necessary. Because these journals get their hands tied up with legitimate publishers like Elsevier and Taylor and Francis. So, I take this as a platform to propose Wikipedia to stand against these fake journals those helps illegitimate researchers in publishing their fake results. I welcome suggestion and co-operation with fellow wikipedians to stop this knowledge pollution by illegitimate researchers. Hence, i prose this as a Roundtables on Wikimania 2017.
