Schools
[edit]This is a non-exhaustive list of schools I think are notable enough to deserve an article in Wikipedia with an equally non-exhaustive list of reasons. This is prompted by an AfD for Cardinal Newman High School (may it turn red soon). If you have any suggestions leave them on the talk page. In general I think a school is definitely notable if you can't stop thinking of reasons it is notable. If the school is only supposed notable for one famous alumnus (or parent as per the aforementioned CNHS) then it really isn't notable.
- Eton College, notable because of its age, its prestige, its famous old pupils.
- Winchester College, ditto.
- Torrance High School, age (considering it's in California), its use as a film set
- Beverly Hills High School, very prestigious, clearly its alumni exert a disproportionate influence on American media. Or are expected to which, so far as notability is concerned, comes to the same thing.
- Benenden School is notable despite being comparatively small (c.480 girls) and quite young (est 1923). Famous old Girls include Princess Anne.
It has been suggested that Cardinal Newman High School (may that link turn red) should be preserved because it forms part of a group of schools that most children in Northern California attend. I don't see why that makes a particular scchool notable any more than the fact that most Northern Californians live in a dwelling on some street or other means there should be an article on every street in that area. However I do think any school in New York's Upper East Side is ipso facto notable because the schools in that area are famously (notoriously?) exclusive, even those funded publicly.
User:Netscott has suggested (here) that there might be a false analogy in that the British schools, notably Eton and Winchester are not the same type as Cardinal Newman High. All the schools I mention are secondary schools. They would fill the same spot on the CV (resumé
