Stephen Stuart was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Syracuse University and the Rhode Island School of Design where he won recognition for his sculpture and photography. From 1960 though 1991 despite an interruption by his service in the armed forces, Steve's professional career was in the realm of advertising photogaphy where he was the recipient of many awards both regional and national. His work has appeared in ads, packaging and the Kodak Encyclopedia of Photography. He made a brief foray into commercial illustration, graphic design-also an award winner, and jewelry design. After retiring from the photogaphy field in 1991, Steve became a successful fine art scrimshander again winning a number of awards as well as the subject of magazine articles. Due to a chronic eye problem he had to resign from continuing with his scrimshaw and devoted his time to writing. He has compieted two novels-"The Wonder of All That Is: The Story of Bean" and "PAX: The Bean Chronicles" which received an excellent review from Kirkus Reviews. He is currently at work on the third installment of the 'Bean Trilogy' and hopes to have it published by the end of 2011. He and his wife, Mary Ann, divide their time between their homes in Florida and New York surrounded by an eclectic collection of art and antiques.
