Possible Articles for Group Project
[edit]The idea of capitalist realism has been presented in class and is quite a spare article on wikipedia as far as solid facts and definitions, especially with history. In the article, we will seek to add the history not of just the phrase, but the start of it in modern commerce and society. The article is lacking in rich text and opinions.
Environmental quality relates to this week’s topic on climate change, it’s causes and the effects it has on modern society. It is lacking in content, and we believe we could add more information on global warming, increased pollution, and possibly the connection between politics and pollution.
Vasili Arkipov was a Soviet Navy officer during the heart of the cold war who is credited with casting a single vote that stopped a Soviet nuclear attack on the US during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. His actions relate to the course in that they deal with nuclear disaster and the past and current fragility of humanity. He, and many others who stopped nuclear strikes during the Cold War, possibly saved humanity from extinction. His wikipedia page does not reflect his heroic efforts, and we intend to provide these.
Ham is interconnected with the concept of antibiotics and involvement with animal rights issues, as well as its ties to the world meat industry. The increased production of meat has been a topic repeatedly covered by Professor Chomsky, and we think this page could be improved to reflect these issues. Ham is a significant meat product, and it deserves a more extensive wikipedia page than it currently has.
International Trade Law relates back to capitalist principles of free trade as well as regulations on trade and protectionist policies. In order to improve on the article, we could add many of the preexisting international trade laws (give brief information on what it’s about, the controversy behind it, and possible harms and benefits) and expand on the ones that are under discussion. There also seems to be some bias in the page, so we would go through and make sure that the article does not choose any one side.
Environment of the United States
This article focuses on the climate, geology, and environmental law of the United States. However, there are few details in most paragraphs about certain parks, places or sights that have features mentioned in the article, something researchable and postable with sources. For this article, we can add more to how capitalism affects the environment and the issues it brings to climate. We could also relate the animal research to the environment.
This user is a student editor in Wikipedia:Wiki_Ed/University_of_Arizona/POL_150C2-III_(Spring_2017). Student assignments should always be carried out using a course page set up by the instructor. It is usually best to develop assignments in your sandbox. After evaluation, the additions may go on to become a Wikipedia article or be published in an existing article. |
