The Pipeclay Club was established on the 16th May, 1881 in Melbourne, Victoria. The Foundation President was Lieutenant-Colonel (later Colonel) R. W. Rede. The Club's first meeting was at the Earl of Zetland Hotel in Swanston Street. Within a year the Club had moved to 'a handsome suite of rooms' at Clement's Royal Arcade Hotel, in Little Collins Street, near the Victoria Arcade[1] .
