Dr. Warren E. Bulman
Referred to as “the daddy of the American market in Hall-effect devices,” Dr. Warren E. Bulman is credited with developing technology and purity of materials that moved Hall-effect devices for sensing and electrical power measurement from laboratories to practical industrial uses.
By insisting on pure (intermetallic) materials, Dr. Bulman and his associates at Ohio Semiconductors Inc. were responsible for today’s practical applications of Hall-effect devices which measure electric current.
Ohio Semiconductors Inc. later became Ohio Semitronics, Inc. under Dr. Bulman in 1964. Ohio Semitronics is credited with:
• First supplier of electrically characterized high-purity indium arsenide compound semit-conductor materials. • First to manufacture and sell a Hall-effect device in the United States. • First to manufacture and market Hall-effect watt transducers to the U.S. market. • First to develop and deliver a practical, cost effective DC current measuring system. • First to release a current sensor carrying the ATEX hazardous area approval required for application in the oil and gas industries.
