Baltazar Téllez was a seventeenth century Jesuit priest who wrote extensively about Ethiopia. His abridgment and partial revision of Manuel de Almeida's work, Historia de Etiopía a Alta ou Abassi, was printed at Coimbra in 1660. Anonymously translated into English in 1710, The Travels Of The Jesuits In Ethiopia was used as a source for Hiob Ludolf's research.[1] [2]
In addition to his historical writings, Téllez is credited with coining the term "albino" to mean a white-skinned African. [3]
