Lingnan architecture as typical architecture in south part of China is quite different from siheyuan, a type of architecture mostly found in north China. Because of the difference in weather, it is common to see wood and paint used for lingnan architecture, however, it is not the case for siheyuan-most siheyuans are build out of bricks and rocks, because winter in north China is colder and longer. Furthermore, the windows in lingnan architecture is single layered and larger whereas it is double layered and much smaller in siheyuan. Such difference in windows is also the result of weather difference. In terms of layout, lingnan architecture varies depending on the site and orientation, whereas siheyuan highlights its central axis.
