Switzerland was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1962 with the song "Le retour", composed by Géo Voumard, with lyrics by Émile Gardaz, and performed by Jean Philippe. The Swiss participating broadcaster, the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR), selected its entry through an internal selection.

Before Eurovision

[edit]

Internal selection

[edit]

SRG SSR asked Émile Gardaz and Géo Voumard to compose two songs for Eurovision, which would then be presented to a jury.[1] The two songs were; "Gris bleu", and "Le retour".[2] The jury selected "Le retour" as Switzerland's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 1962.[1] It is unknown how Jean Philippe was selected to be the singer of the entry.

At Eurovision

[edit]

On the evening of the final Philippe performed eleventh in the running order, following Norway and preceding Yugoslavia. Voting was by each national jury awarding 3, 2 and 1 point(s) to their top three songs, and at the close of the voting "Le retour" had received two points, placing Switzerland joint tenth with two other entries from Denmark and Norway. The Swiss jury awarded its 3 points to eventual winners France.[3]
