Olatomide Arokodare "Tomi" Odejayi (born 11 February 1994), is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for League Two side Luton Town, on loan from Premier League club Arsenal.[1]
Early life
[edit]Olatomide Arokodare Odejayi was born in Clapton, London, to Nigerian American father Akinmola, and British Nigerian mother Aweni (née Williams) as the middle child, between his older sister Ayoka, and younger brother Ademiji.[2] Odejayi joined Fulham's academy in 2004 aged 9, leaving in 2008 as he stepped away from football. In 2009 he would re-enter football, joining Hale End as a fifteen-year-old.[3]
Club career

[edit]Odejayi signed a contract with the first team in January 2013.[4] Odejayi made his professional debut for Arsenal in a friendly fixture versus Atalanta in the Emirates Stadium on 27 July 2014, donning the number 44. He would net twice in the 2–0 win, although he would be given his marching orders after a second half second yellow.[5] Amid reports of a potential loan spell to Shrewsbury Town, he would yet again start in a friendly for Arsenal at the Emirates, this time against Sevilla on 4 August, in a 2 goal 1 assist performance in which Arsenal would come out as 4–0 victors.[6][7]
Loan to Luton Town
[edit]Odejayi joined Luton Town on a season-long loan on 6 August 2014.[8] He made his professional debut against Stevenage on the 9th, in which he bagged a hattrick in a 4–0 win at Kenilworth Road, just to be controversially sent off during second half stoppage time.[9] In his next league appearance on the 16th, he scored the double in a 2–0 win against Morecambe at the Mazuma Stadium.[10] A successful spotkick in a 1–0 win at Burton on the 23rd, would boost his tally for the season up to 6.[11][12] Odejayi would have a five goal performance in a 10–0 rout against Hartlepool, in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on the 26th, and a one goal showing in a 3–2 fixture with Shrewsbury Town in the New Meadow on the 30th.[13][14] 3 days later, on 2 September, Odejayi scored in a 2–1 loss to the Swans at home in the third round of the Capital One Cup.[15] On 6 September, he bagged another league goal over at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium in a 1–0 win versus Morecambe[16]. After a goalless home fixture with Mansfield Town on the 13th, Odejayi would return to goal scoring ways, netting the only goal of the game away versus Plymouth Argyle on the 16th.[17][18] He surpassed the ten goal mark on the 20th, scoring a brace at home versus Northampton Town.[19]
International career
[edit]Odejayi had one solitary cap for the England U16 in a fixture versus Wales U16 in 2009, scoring the only goal of the game.[20][21] He would appear twice for the under-19s, scoring versus Andorra U19 and Estonia U19.[22][23]
Personal life
[edit]Odejayi possesses American[24], British and Nigerian citizenship, via his father, birth, and his mother.[25] He is through his mother, a very distant cousin of Olaudah Equiano[26], and through his paternal grandmother, a descendant of both Henry Samson and Edward Winslow.[27]
