November copy edit drive
[edit]Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue. Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page. Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Awards and barnstars A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page. Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive! |
St.philomena's
[edit]Dear User How did you know that the St.philomena's wikipedia page was being edited? and did someone ask you to monitor it? thankyou for doing so —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.27.196.125 (talk) 20:17, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- I am using a tool called Huggle. ~NerdyScienceDude 20:21, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- so it notifies you of changes? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.27.196.125 (talk) 20:25, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yes. It scans the recent changes feed. ~NerdyScienceDude 20:27, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- So you use this a lot?! did you ask for permission or did you just want to do it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.27.196.125 (talk) 20:37, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- I do use it a lot. All you need to use Huggle is to create an account, request for rollback permissions, install Huggle, and create your huggle.css page (click here to create) with
enable=true

Can the IP address be deleted from edited articles so that i can be left un identified? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hemcouture (talk • contribs) 21:04, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Ok change of request can you delete this ip address 92.27.196.125 off the St.philomena's article "edit history". I believe that you would be far more able than me as you probably know how to manually delete things where as I haven't a clue! I would pay you if I could! Thankyou! hemcouture —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hemcouture (talk • contribs) 21:35, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- I don't have the power to revision delete your IP from the contribution list. You can ask an administrator to do it for you, but I don't think they will. Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia! ~NerdyScienceDude 01:05, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Good or bad?
[edit]Did the changes I made to Red Bull Racing Team good or bad? Do you think its better with the car descriptions or season by seaso, and finaly, does it read like a news article? I would like your opinion. Thanks Nascar1996 03:43, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
- I think it looks good with the season by season prose, and it does not read like a news article in my opinion. ~NerdyScienceDude 01:59, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
- I believe it works better, too. The car by car didn't make that much sense in my opinion. I did it to this article because most of the others will take days to do, such as Hendrick Motorsports. Nascar1996 02:03, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

HG vs. GLOO
[edit]What do you think is better: HG or GLOO? Wayne Olajuwon chat 23:23, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
- I prefer using Huggle as it has more features. I use igloo when I'm on a Mac since Huggle won't work on a Mac. ~NerdyScienceDude 23:55, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Article of the month – Alan Kulwicki, selected as a good article
Alan Dennis Kulwicki (December 14, 1954 – April 1, 1993), nicknamed "Special K" and the "Polish Prince", was an American NASCAR Winston Cup Series (now Sprint Cup Series) racecar driver. He started racing at local short tracks in Wisconsin before moving up to regional stock car touring series. Kulwicki arrived at NASCAR, the highest and most expensive level of stock car racing in the United States, with no sponsor, a limited budget, and only a racecar and a borrowed pickup truck. Despite starting with meager equipment and finances, he earned the 1986 NASCAR Rookie of the Year award over drivers racing for well-funded teams. After Kulwicki won his first race at Phoenix International Raceway, he debuted what would become his trademark "Polish Victory Lap". Kulwicki won the 1992 Winston Cup championship by what was then the closest margin in NASCAR history. He died early in 1993 in a light aircraft accident, and was unable to defend his championship. He has been inducted into numerous racing halls of fame and was named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers. Kulwicki was known for being a perfectionist and doing things his own way. An engineer by trade, his scientific approach to NASCAR racing inspires the way teams are now run. Despite lucrative offers from top car owners, he insisted on driving for his own race team, AK Racing, during most of his NASCAR career. Described by his publicist as "a real hard type of person to get to know", he remained a bachelor throughout his life. Formatting
[edit]Hello, when I was creating the newest section for the NASCAR portal, Portal:NASCAR/Championship standings, I wanted the third table to be below the others in the middle. However, it would squeeze inbetween the others. That table is hidden, and I was wondering if you would know how to fix it. Also, do you believe we should add colors to the tables that are similar to the portal colors? Thanks. Nascar1996 02:17, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- Nevermind. I fixed the issue. Do you believe 2010 Price Chopper 400 is ready for GAN? If it is, why not you nominate it. I have two others (2010 Sylvania 300 & 2010 AAA 400) in the process. Nascar1996 14:15, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- I've nominated it. ~NerdyScienceDude 03:23, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
- For the restrictor plate tracks (which has a lead change every lap), how would I write a good prose for them. Should I just ignore those races (except for the Daytona 500)? Nascar1996 17:51, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
- You could write something similar to 2010 Coke Zero 400. ~NerdyScienceDude 18:06, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Trouted
[edit]Whack! You've been whacked with a wet trout. Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly. |
You have been trouted for: YOUR REASON HERE You rolled back this edit as "unhelpful". In my opinion, the text was poorly written POV, and I asked that future edits be discussed on the talk page before being added to the article. I don't claim to have perfect knowledge of WP practices, but I thought my edit was correct. Perhaps I could have discussed my reasoning on the talk page first, but I feel that the burden of proof should be on the editor trying to add controversial text. The automatic message you sent to my talk page telling me it was unhelpful was in itself quite unhelpful. What do you think I did wrong? Tdslk (talk) 03:58, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
- I was using igloo, which automatically leaves a templated warning on your talk page. It looked like blanking of sourced information and replacing it with information about condoms, which is something a vandal could do. I'll remove the warning from your talk page. ~NerdyScienceDude 13:04, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
