Article Summary - Sub Pop

[edit]

I moved to the Seattle area within the past 3 years, and since I have been here I have gotten really big into the local music scene. I have come to love the new and the old music that has originated from this area. A huge player in this music scene is the company known as Sub-pop records. This is the company behind some of the biggest Seattle area bands like Nirvana and Alice In Chains. Sub-pop was even closely associated with punk bands like Wipers and Sonic Youth. Since this company is such a big player, I decided to look into their Wikipedia page to find some aspects of the page to comment on. Looking into this page I wanted to see if each fact was cited with good information, if there were any grammar or spelling mistakes, and if the article is up to date.

The first aspect of the article I will be reviewing is the cited facts. I wanted to see if the facts were linked to exterior sources that were not Wikipedia, and if they were linked to good sources. Immediately, I noticed one pretty important fact that did not have a linked source to It. It was talking about how Sub Pop was founded by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman. Another problem in the first paragraph is a fact at the end about the owners selling the company, and it has a little quotation that states it needs a citation. Besides those mistakes the rest of the article looks pretty good. All of the links lead to outside sources that are not Wikipedia. There's one big source that fuels quite a bit of the page. It comes from a book called Our Band Could Be Your Life Written by Michael Azerrad.

To evaluate the article further I was going to check for spelling and grammar mistakes. I found a few grammar mistakes like when the article says,” While in Seattle, he wrote a column for local newspaper The Rocket” there should have been an “a” before local. Another mistake is when the Author was naming different genres that are within the “Seattle Sound. The sentence,” folk rock, psychedelic rock, garage rock with pop hooks and acoustic harmonics.” needs an “and” after psychedelic Rock. Then there are some smaller mistakes like “avant garde” missing a hyphen, and “afterwards” being used when “afterward" would work better. The phrase,” Oh, Inverted World, Chutes Too Narrow and Wincing the Night Away” is missing a comma before the and. Overall, the article is not too bad as far as spelling and grammar, besides a few small mistakes. It is still very readable and you wouldn't notice those mistakes unless you were meticulously looking for them.

Lastly, I am reviewing how up to date this article is. When I scroll down to the bottom of the page, it says that the page was last edited on April 16, 2023. That means that the info is probably pretty up to date. One thing I did notice that may be out of date though, is the examples given at the beginning of the article about which artists are on the Sub Pop roster. Many of the artists listed have been on sub pop at some point but are not currently represented by them. I feel like that might be something that could be changed. Besides that, the article seems up to date.

After reviewing the spelling, grammar, citations, and correctness of this article, I can say that it is a well written article. It only has a few small problems that are very easily glanced over if you aren't looking for them. The site was fueled by good information, had minimal spelling and grammar errors, and was up to date within the last 2 months.

About me

[edit]

Hi, Thank you for visiting my page. I am a student living in the Pacific Northwest. I love consuming media of all types like movies, music, art, and literature. My favorite form is music though. I am also a musician. I mostly play guitar but also enjoy playing bass, drums, and piano. I absolutely love music and would pursue it as a career if I was given the opportunity. I like just about all kinds of music, but some of my favorite genres are metal, punk, folk, jazz, and blues. I enjoy thrifting/antiquing, reading, writing, and watching live music in my free time. I also collect CDs. One of my goals is to travel as much as possible because I want to see what is out there.

My Wikipedia Interests

[edit]

As a Wikipedia volunteer, I see myself being interested in all things history. I have a special interest in music history, and I enjoy learning about all the different sub-genres and cultures that come with these genres. If I do contribute, you may find my writing in different historical sections.
