Usiwoma Joshua (born 5 April 1993), who performs under the stage name Joejo,[1] is a Nigerian actor and a singer-songwriter currently signed to N3rd Records.[2]

Early life and education

Joejo[3] was born in Emevor, a town in Delta State, Nigeria, His High school days were done in University preparatory secondary School, Benin City, Nigeria. He is currently studying Entrepreneurial and Business Management at the National Open University of Nigeria.[4]

Career

In 2008 Joejo starred in her first drama movie Relentless (2008 - 2009) the movie which was later released in 2010[5] (at the BFI London Film Festival[6] The movie was screened with some others at the 2012 New York African Film Festival[7] and also at the Film Club, Nigeria in 2012.),[8] becoming his first ever movie role; the drama also stars Gideon Okeke, Nneka Egbuna,[9] Jimmy Jean-Louis and Halle Mordu, co-produced by Andy Amadi Okoroafor, set in Freetown, Sierra Leone and Lagos, Nigeria.

While he was still attending high school, Joejo has been performing and making music with his friends. In 2013 when he began music professionally, Joejo has composed, written and recorded morethan 35 songs and release two tracks and one video. In 2013 he debuted with LISTEN,[10][11][12] the song enjoyed airplay's on radio stations in Nigeria, not too long he followed it up with the official video[13] in 2014. The song also earned him nomination at the City People Entertainment Awards in the Best New Male Act Category. In December 2014, Joejo made a comeback with Happy People[14][15] after releasing "Listen". On 14 March 2015, he released a single titled Gimme Dat[16][17][18][19][20][21] featuring Halle Mordu, MoRemi & GeeWayne, the controversial song referenced the current happening's in Nigeria at that time, from Chibok Girls to Boko Haram and made him more popular among music critics, It was an asserting notability that Joejo has passed the smell-test. He has spent part of his career developing a method of performance called Calm Music - In pieces that stretch anywhere from 2 minutes to 5 minutes in length, this is where he made another statement of Intent on 17 December 2015 with another single entitled Candy Crush.[22][23]
