Submission declined on 21 November 2024 by Bobby Cohn (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.

Early Life and Education
Shirah Benarde is an American entrepreneur and advocate for personal safety. Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, she displayed creativity and a passion for problem-solving.[1] Benarde was a student at the University of Tampa studying public relations and Advertising from 2020 to 2022.[2] During this time, she continued to refine her entrepreneurial skills and vision. She was just 16 years old when she got the idea for the NightCap.[3]
Nightcap Founding
The idea for Nightcap came to Bernarde in a dream following a group of her friends going off to college and relaying back to her their experiences having drinks spiked on nights out. [4] Motivated by their stories and her desire to make social spaces safer, she began experimenting with simple materials to create a practical solution. The product's first prototype was made out of a pair of cut up pantyhouse and a scrunchie. Micheal, Shirah’s 21 year old brother, came home from college shortly following her first prototype and saw it on the counter of their home. [4] Micheal immediately saw the value in his sisters goal and jumped in to kickstart the Nightcap company. Having lived on a college campus for four years, he had first hand experience with the dangers and relevance of drink spiking for many individuals. The product took 6 months to push into production but was ultimately founded as the original drink spiking prevention scrunchie.
To gain funding for the product the siblings created a Crowdchange page. The company officially launched their e-commerce site in December of 2019, allowing customers to purchase the innovative drink safety product. In February of 2021, the siblings appeared on Shark Tank where Shirah and her brother secured a deal with Lori Greiner. The partnership provided not only funding but also mentorship, helping the brand expand its reach and impact.
Outreach
Shirah Benarde has utilized social media to aid in Nightcaps outreach. The brand has built up a following on Instagram and Tik Tok, leveraging the platforms to raise awareness about drink safety.n 2022, the product went viral, which significantly boosted sales and increased its visibility among younger audiences.[5] Bernarde recognized that putting her face behind the product would help connect to customers. The brand currently has 74.3k followers on Instagram[6] and 467k followers on TikTok[7]. This organic engagement has played a key role in the company's growth and success.
Impact on Society
Nightcap has had an impact on society by addressing a pressing safety concern in social settings. The introduction of the product has allowed women and men to feel safe rather than scared when participating in nightlife, drinking or other social settings. By providing a practical solution, NightCap has raised awareness of drink tampering and encouraged venues, individuals, and communities to take proactive measures against it. Nightcap works with many bars, clubs, universities, police departments, governments, nonprofits and military to make the product as accessible to students and individuals as possible.[4]
