Murasaki even going so far as to claim "but to recount all his virtues would, I fear, give rise to a suspicion that I distort the truth."[1] His appearance was said to tempted men and women alike, having desirable features such as smooth white skin, accredited fashion, and famed popularity.[2]

Genji has had several adaptations in other media from different iterations of The Tale of Genji. Genji is usually kept universal having unrivaled beauty and popularity between all of these media[3] differing only between actors and animations appearance.
