Jefferson Evans was the first African-American to graduate from The Culinary Institute of America, graduating in 1947.
He became a professor at Johnson & Wales. He opened a restaurant called One & Only in Connecticut. In 1996, he became the namesake of the Jefferson Evans Award at the BCA Cultural Awareness Salute.
