Mr YAU Simon is an educationalist (MEd) with Math major in UG and PG. He is an alumni of "The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education" specializing in Math.

Professional Experiences Mr YAU was ever an instructor of a course "Introductory Topics in Mathematical Science" coded MATH192 at HKUST with official certificate awarded. He was also a teacher of HKALE Pure Math and Applied Math of the old public exam system in Hong Kong. Now, he is a teacher teaching Math to Primary one to Secondary six students, especially teaching HKDSE Math subjects including the Compulsory part (Core) and Extended parts: Calculus and Statistics (M1), and Algebra and Calculus (M2), leading those who studied them for admission to universities.

Undergraduate Degree "Applied Statistics" & "Mathematics": Mr YAU holds a "Diploma in Applied Statistics" and a degree "Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Studies". In his UG studies, he got A or A- in many courses. In year 3, he was awarded a scholarship for his excellent achievement in his study that shows the department professors recognize his effort into the degree.

Postgraduate Certificates & Master's Degree "Education" & "Computational Mathematics": Mr YAU has passed all courses required for three graduations of Postgraduate Certificates in "Curriculum and Assessment", "Educational Management" and "Child Development" respectively. What's more is the graduation of a Master's degree: "Master of Education". All is to wait for a complete graduation process. Now, he is doing his second Master's degree: "Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics".

Mr YAU is sure that keeping one's mindset refreshed is very important, so he has been sticking to this idea by doing academic research consistently. It does further improve his logical thinking and is significant to his future career too.

Doctor's Degree Mr YAU is planning to be a doctoral student after completing MSc in C.Math. He is preparing for it by doing research with Math areas specific below (Personal Academic Interests) when free. His Doctor's thesis will be focusing on Mathematical Modeling using the analysis of algebra, calculus and numerical method.

Mr YAU's Secondary Schooling Years: --------------------------------------

In S4, Mr YAU became membership of "Support Measure for the Exceptionally Gifted Students", in where he had an opportunity to be a student in the Dept of Math of HKUST for two semesters with two credits and an official certificate awarded. Meanwhile, he also attended training courses of International Mathematical Olympic, IMO, at HKUST. Later, he sat for the Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad, APMO, a final exam stage for being IMO members representing Hong Kong. In S6, he completed a Statistics course with three credits and an official certificate awarded offered by the Dept of Statistics, CUHK. In S7, he wrote a book, A Course In Calculus, and sent it to Prof. Shiu-Yuen Cheng, head of Department of Mathematics and Associate Dean of Science of HKUST, and Prof. Shing-Tung Yau, an internationally renowned Mathematician, for proofreading. He received high commendation from the two professors at different time stages.

Personal Academic Interests:

Mathematics: Math Modelling, Real Analysis, Vector Mechanics, Advanced Algebra, Classic Calculus, Numerical Analysis. ;
Education: Theory of Child Development, Educational Management, Classic Education, Gifted Education in Mathematics.
