Zakhi From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Zakhi are four small villages (Zakhi-Miana, Zakhi-Kona, Zakhi-Charbagh and Zahi-Qabristan) in Nowshera District of Peshawar Division in the Pukhtoonkhwa (North-West Frontier) Province of Pakistan. The population is approximitly 20000 . The vast majority people are hard working farmers and The main source of income of the region is agriculture, a small number are involved in government jobs and some of them working outside the country . The villagers are brave and Segmentary lineage ethnic Pashtun tribes.

[edit] Location Zakhi is located near Akbarpura (34° 3' 25" North, 71° 43' 18" East) on Peshwar-Islamabad Motorway in Nowshera District. it is nearly 15 km from Peshawar on Grand Trunk Road 45 km from Nowshera. Across the Kabul River on the north about 25 KM, Charsadda city is located. Geography: this area have triangle location bordering with Distict Peshawar and Distric Charssada.

[edit] History Zakhi or Zakhai (in pashto) is suburbs area of Akbarpura villages of NWFP (Pukhtoonkhawa), Pakistan. The poeple of this village normaly called Zakhiwal. Mostly Afghan Pashtun came to this area around 1557 with Bairam Khan who ruled on behalf of the 13 year old Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great. The village Akbarpura was named after the great Mughal King Akbar the Great who camped here while travilling between Kabul and Delhi. In around 1834 this was ruled by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

Due its geographical location near the coast of River Kabul,this area and specially the village of Zakhi faced abundant natural disaters one of which is possibly the 19th century's famous and known cruel havey flood that destroyed the entire village,brought a heavy death tool to the greenish area of Zakhi.This catastrophe caused permanent displacement of the local residents and Zakhi was divided into four new sub villages newly named Zakhi-Mian, Zakhi-Qabristan, Zakhi-Kona and Zakhi-Charbagh. Under the British Administation, new school, road and irrigation system were build to develop the people of this area. Zakhi village was going through the Stone Age since it become the part of new county Pakistan.

literacy

The literacy rate is 15% for men and 2% for women ( this percentage means they could write name only),Each village has a primary school for boys and girls.School bulidnings are in very bad condition with no basic facilities . Ironically the Director of Higher Education Nowshesa do not have office setting in the calassrome in Nowshera city school
