Tanaka Kikumatsu (田中菊松,たなかきくまつ,January 27, 1895 - October 7, 1964) was a Japanese naval officer. His final rank was Rear Admiral.
career
[edit]Born in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture (formerly Oguni-machi, Kariwa-Gun), he graduated from the Naval Academy in December 1915, and became an ensign in December 1916. In December 1922, he became chief gunnery officer of the destroyer Urakaze; in December 1925, he became an instructor and adjutant at the Gunnery School; in November 1929, he graduated from the Naval War College.
In December 1937, Captain of the light cruiser “Abukuma”, and in May 1941, Captain of the heavy cruiser “Kumano”.
During the Pacific War, he participated in the Malayan campaign, the Battle of Sunda Strait, the Indian Ocean Raid, the Battle of Midway, the Battle of the Eastern Solomons, and the Battle of Santa Cruz Islands.
In May,1943, Rear Admiral.
On November 17, 1944, Tanaka became Commander of the 21st Special Ground Forces Group(Surabaya).
On September 15, 1945,Rear Admiral Tanaka signed the surrender a representative of the Japanese Navy. Allied military representatives are Rear Admiral W.R. Patterson, Commander of the British 5th Cruiser Squadron, Acting Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Southeast Asia, on the British ship HMS Cumberland while anchored in Batavia Harbor.[1]
Rear Admiral Tadashi Maeda is a subordinate of Commander Rear Admiral Tanaka.
